Here’s how my reading of the Brideshead Revisited book went.
Me: So I came because of gay? There’s gay here, right?
Book: There is no gay here. Only miserable alcoholism, miserable adultery, and miserable monologues on Catholic guilt.
Me: Gee, seems like everyone involved would be better off if they weren’t involved with Catholicism -
Book: That’s the point. The deader inside they are, the closer they are to God.
And I’m supposed to be happy when the main character is very dead inside and a converted Catholic at the end…? Yeah I don’t get it.
